I realize that Excel is an unfamiliar program to some of you so I would like you to use this opportunity to share what you’ve learned. You are also encouraged to post any questions that you have so that your classmates may be able to help guide you to a solution. Please keep in mind this is not designed to have someone do your assignment for you, but to continue and share in the learning process.
I learned that in Microsoft Excel it can help you add numbers together like for example if you want to add 4+5, you would type it into any empty box you like and put =4+5 then press enter, and it would automatically tell you the correct answer 9
ReplyDeleteHow would I be able to add a picture of a image in Excel?
ReplyDeleteOne Thing I have learned so far from MS Excel is that I can make column charts, line charts, pie charts and other styles of charts for my data. Excel has many similar command tabs from MS Word so makes it easier to navigate the software.
ReplyDeleteIn response to Linda Tso:
The way I add the picture in Excel is through the insert tab. I add the picture the same way we add on MS Word.
I use Excel on a daily basis and find the pivot table and chart wizard very useful when working with a lot of data in a tabular format.
ReplyDeleteI use Excel on a daily basis, as well. I use it for everything, reconciling bank accounts, using all of the various formula options, creating charts and graphs, and I also prefer Excel to Access when creating a simple data source for use in Mail Merges, etc.
ReplyDeleteI have never used Excel. I never even had a reason to open the program, so everything I read in the chapter was new to me. Needless to say I learned quite a bit, too much I think to type here. One of the more important things I learned was how helpful spreadsheets can be, and I look forward to learning how to use them to make my life a little easier. I don't really have any questions now just from reading, but I'm sure I will have plenty when I do the lab at the end of the chapter.
ReplyDeleteI am very interested in Excel.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure where everyone stands according to major and year but Excel would have helped me out a lot in statistics if I had known how to use it more. So keep that in mind, statistics is hard.

ReplyDeleteIs anyone else having trouble with this weeks assignment? I have word 2010 student addition and it is not the same as the one the book uses. I can't find the right word art, and when I set the columns to the right settings they are all off. If anyone else is having these problems please help me
thank you
Jen
Jen,
ReplyDeleteHave you justified the columns? and you also have to add another continuos page break at the end of the document. That seemed to make all my columns equal and aligned. Took me a few times but follow the order the book lists and it should work.
Hope it works...
Kristin
Excel is a program that I have not used in the past but as I went through the chapters I saw how easy it was to sum up the total of numbers. This is so much easier to do this in excel than on a calculator.
ReplyDeleteI have used Excel from the user end. This was the first time I created a worksheet. I look forward to learning more about Excel. I agree with Karolyn how much easier formulas can be done in excel than adding numbers on the calculator.
ReplyDeleteI have used Excel in the past and I know how to do the basic things. It is much easier to add up the numbers in Excel than to sit there with a calculator and add up every number.
ReplyDeleteI have never used excel but once and somebody had to teach me what to do and put in where. It can be very confusing.
ReplyDeleteI found today's assignment to be the easiest one to date... but that is probably because Excel is the program I have the most experience with :)
ReplyDeleteI am definitely excited to learn more about this program since I find it to be the most useful in my field (accounting).
I found the assignment to be easier than I expected also. The book really does do a good job showing you step by step how to do things.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone had any trouble, here to help...
Kristin
I found this assignment to be particularly easy for me. The book proved to be a great reference.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Antonio, Kristin and Sasha. This assignment was even easier than I expected. I also found the SAM grading to be much better. The errors were explained much clearer.
ReplyDeleteI briefly used Microsoft Excel before this class and I liked some of the things you can do on Excel, like what Linda said of where you can put=4+5 and the answer will equal 9. Also the sum function is nice to use for multiple calculations. I like creating maps or graphs, however you want to word it in excel. I hope everyone enjoys this section. I think I will
ReplyDeleteI noticed that getting the graph into those certain cells was my problem. I was trying to be exact and that's where SAM got me. But very fixable, easy and done!
ReplyDeleteKristin
The two things I have learned from working with Microsoft Excel is how to work with adding the sum of numbers, and adding dollar signs. Also I have learned how to create and format a graph to show data which I think will be very helpful in the line of work I'm planning to go into.
ReplyDeleteJen Medeiros
ReplyDeleteI have used Excel in the past it can be very similar to word and other Office programs, and it can also be very hard. As some of you have said it makes it easy to add two numbers but it also makes it easier to do other equations to one I have used for accounting is f4/$F$10 that one allows you to divide anything in the f column or other columns by f10 there are a lot of different formulas you can use though some are easier than others.
Kristin,
ReplyDeleteOne thing I learned that I found to be very helpful was using ALT when resizing the graphs to get it to snap to the column.
If you didn't use that technique that's probably where SAM got you.
Krystel
This SAM assignment wasn't too bad. SAM continues to be very particular! Looking at chapter 2, I liked how the import for the web worked.
ReplyDeleteI found this SAM assignment to be much easier than some of the other ones. I have the newest version of Microsoft Office so sometimes I have a hard time trying to find something that is not in my edition of Microsoft Office.
ReplyDeleteIn this week's assignment Professor Ferro mentions "SAM can be a bit picky when it assigns grades". I feel as if I am missing something as I have not seen any grades from SAM. Is anyone receiving feedback from SAM? If so, how are you getting this info?
ReplyDeleteKarolyn,
ReplyDeleteyou need to go to reports and pick all reports or even just projects. my computer pops and and i need to allow pop ups for this site, but that shoukd work. It will show you your grade and you can from there download to see what you got wrong.
That should help.
Kristin
Wow! After reviewing this chapter there is so much more to learn about Excel. It seems pretty limitless.
ReplyDeleteJackie,
I find the same problem. I've been adding hortcuts to my toolbar like crazy because if I don't, I'm not sure I'd be able to find them again!
-Bonnie
This is my first time using excel. I have always been intimidated by it and could never really figure it out but now I see that it is quite easy to use. I found the exercises easier than Word exercises! I cant wait to apply the knowledge in my other classes.
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad that this class also goes over Excel. Excel is one of the more complex programs that Microsoft Word has but it is also a very useful tool and can help keep things organized. I am excited for this section.
