Individual Porfolio

You are welcome to use this space to share your progress as you work on your final portfolio. Please keep in mind that your submitted work must be individual, however, you are welcome to share pointers, especially if you encounter any technical issues.

I am eager to read about your comments regarding this project as I am looking for suggestions and/or ways to improve this comprehensive project. Suggestions about topics, format, etc. are welcome. In addition to suggestions for improvement, I am interested in hearing about what you do like about this individual portfolio so that I can consider keeping certain things in tact.

Thank you all for participating in this course and I hope all of you enjoy the upcoming holiday season.

Sincerely,
Rose Ferro

  1. Is this due the 21st or the 18th? I saw online that it says the 21st, however when I read the instructions it says to get full credit it is due no later than 3pm on the 18th?

Does anyone know for sure the exact due date for full credit?

Also are we supposed to be creating Word documents for both the Excel & PowerePoint components? (I hope not but it sort of read that way to me in the instructions)

I also want to say that I am in no way looking forward to doing this project... I don't even know where to begin. It seems like a daunting task compared to everything else we've done and like way too much to accomplish with everything else that is now due for the last week of classes.

  2. Sacha, I have all of the same questions!

I'm just going to go step by step as it's listed.

My bigger concern is this grade tracker we need to submit. I didn't keep track of all of my grades nor did I recieve professor responses with all of my grades or a midsemester evaluation. I think it should have been made known in the begining that we would be responsibile for tracking our own grades.

  3. I just decided to give it my best attempt on the things I sure of (the resume & cover letter basically).

I emailed the professor right after submitting my post but haven't heard back yet... I'll post again when I do.

I agree with you Krystel! I was able to scour my email and find grades for all but 1 assignment and 2 re-submissions so I just made a note on my spreadsheet.

I really don't think there's any way that I can accomplish everything for the portfolio so I'm just going to submit what's done up to that point when the time comes... worst case I do believe that any assignment submission is supposed to get you at least 55 points so that's my fall back plan (as uncool is that would will be toward my GPA lol).

  4. I'm very concerned about this grade tracker assignment we need to submit on December 19. I didn't keep track of all of my grades nor do I believe I have all of my assignments in my folder that I kept for this class for one reason or another.

  5. I also agree with the grade tracker comment I did email the teacher because I did not receive many of my grades also. And now I need them to finish the spreadsheet she needs completed.

I completed the final and thought when I first read it that it was long and hard but I did one section a day and it was relativly simple once you get going. I also did one mircosoft word document and typed all the senerios out for each section which was about a page and put it before the sections when I attached each to send to the professor.

    I hope that helps some...

  6. Kristin I agree somewhat that the final wasn't *as* hard as it originally looked.

I think that it is still a MAJOR project, and because I'm scared to not receive full credit; I am going to assume that the due date is the 18th which is less than 2 weeks to get what seems like 4 weeks worth of class assignments (I haven't heard back either way regarding the due date so)

If I had to pick only one complaint it is that it wasn't beaten into our heads (while doing the chapter on it) that we should start actually working on completing our resume & cover letter, stating it would be part of our final grade. I wanted it to be perfect so it took me almost a full day (8 hrs) to get to a point where I could call them "good".

I would have not felt so overwhelmed if the project was only "half" as much (meaning that I only had the Excel & PowerPoint to work on).

It really didn't help me that 3 of my 5 classes saved the biggest projects for the last week of classes... this has absolutely, without a doubt, been "hell week" as I've heard other students describe it!

  7. I feel that the final is rather large for the time given. I'm not sure about anyone else but I finished my last regular assignments really early and had nothing to do for this class for three weeks, which was wasted time, time I could have spent working on this project. My suggestion would be to give the instructions for the final at least three weeks to a month ahead. With the other projects that are due plus finals it has been as Sacha said a "hell week"

  8. I totally agree with all of you!

When is the final actually due? Sacha, I'm with you shooting for tomorrow.

  9. I just checked my email and I still haven't heard back either way.
So I'm shooting for the 18th at 3pm... I had to completely rearrange my schedule and work non-stop (it felt at least) these last few days to get remotely close to be able to be finished in time but I think I should be good and as much as I hate to say it I'm actually proud of my hard work... it came out better than I originally expected considering the time frame given :)

  10. I've found that all or most of my emails have not been responded to in a timely manner. When we were working on the Power Point chapter, I did not have that chapter in my book, as I posted. I also emailed on 11/27 with "PROBLEM" in the subject line and did not get a response until earlier this week... well after the assignment was due. I also haven't received any word back regarding my grades and midsemester review that I never received.

  13. Confusing? Yes!
I finally received my grades that I needed to complete my spreadsheet but not enough time to do it once I got that email reply. So I plan on completing it tonight but now it is considered late, I think it was due yesterday????
I'm going to complete it but explain how I had to wait for her response and hopefully I think she will understand.
